Stencil

I haven't been doing blog posts, but I've been busy. This is a new stencil I cut and a shirt I made using it.

Detail

This is a closeup of the detail on a leaf. Batik can be hard (for me at least) to have fine detail. The vein down the middle of the leaf was done by scratching the wax off in a narrow line. I have some other ideas of how to make designs in the wax. But if the wax crackles, it could overpower the design. Although soy wax doesn't seem to crack too much. I need to play in the basement more.

Bird

Well, there is a good reason I don't do photography for a living, or even as a side job. But I do what I can. When you spot what looks like a Yellowbellied Sapsucker woodpecker outside your kitchen window you can't really set up the shot or choose the background. I tried to tell it to move into a better spot, but it must not have heard me. I think it's a female since it didn't have red on the throat, only on the top of the head.

Since I'm right in the middle of Minneapolis I don't see a large variety of birds in the yard. But I've had a Pileated Woodpecker in my yard also. Or at least if I'm using my Audubon book right, I think that is what they are. I'll stick with dyeing clothes.

Season

Rather than doing a post about my own work, I have one of other someone else's.

We've had some cold weather lately, making it look rather snowy:

When we'd rather be looking at a flower called Glory of Snow:

Mary's photos are of flowers she grows herself. I love the colors and the technique. And I'll have to find out how she deters the squirrels and rabbits so well.
